2022 Workshop at Cal State University Fullerton

We held a 6-week workshop in the musical theater department directed by Broadway’s Josh Grisetti. Over this time we moved scenes around, added/changed/removed songs, tied together some loose ends, and created a more Christmas season environment. At the end of the workshop, we performed 4 shows in the black-box theater space, with limited props, no sets, and a piano only.

Below are a few short scene clips.

Jack wakes up in his Downtown NY apartment and sings “My Life is Amazing.” He walks the bustling NY streets and ends up at his office, Lassiter & Campbell, all along singing about how amazing his life is, and how he ‘needs nothing at all.’

In the office boardroom at Lassiter & Campbell, Jack tells the team they’re on the verge of one of the largest mergers in corporate history. Along with his business partner, Patricia Lassiter, they sing about Jack’s love for “Money,” and the desire for more.

Jack wakes up in his alternate glimpse of a life in New Jersey. After feeling out of his mind, his best friend Arnie finds him wandering the streets and takes him home, where they sing “What’s Happened to Me?”

FULL SCENE - Jack, Kate, and Annie go to the mall to pick up Annie’s new shoes. Jack wonders into a suit shop where the tailor tries to sell him a new suit. The tailor sings “Keep ‘em in Stitches.”

Jack and the guys are at bowling night where it’s not going so well for Jack, when the disappointed guys head to the bar for a drink, Evelyn Thompson makes her way by and relentlessly decries her love for Jack in, “Evelyn’s Yes.”

After Evelyn’s song, Arnie and the guys return to tell Jack there’s no way he should cheat on Kate. Jack says, “It’s complicated,” but Arnie and the guys aren’t having it, singing “Arnies No.”

As Jack wakes up on Christmas morning with a wife, a daughter, and a house in Jersey, Kate reminds him of the Christmas party they are attending that night. At the party, Kate surprises Jack with a Christmas love song just for him, “Christmas is You and Me,” reminding Jack, and everyone else, they’re still in love!

In Jack’s new glimpse, his daughter, Annie, suspects he’s not her real dad, and that he’s probably a product of the “Aliens.”
